MagneticTime’s MT1™ – A New Accessory for the Classroom - A Back to School Must-Have
Limerick, Ireland and London, August 18, 2006 – It’s that time of year again - back to school shopping lists. School uniforms, shoes, notebooks, pens, pencils. And, this year, MagneticTime’s MT1 (http://www.magnetictime.com), the text-to-speech software that allows users to listen to emails and Word document on their iPod, mobile phone, portable PC, laptop or desktop PC.
The MT1 software product is proving its value in education at Royal Holloway, University of London, whose history lecturer, Dr Emmett Sullivan, uses it for proof-reading documents, correcting essays and making suggestions to students on how to improve their essays. Dr Sullivan listens to students’ work while commuting on the train, checking what he hears against what has been written. This approach, he says, “allows me to fully concentrate on the students’ work and avoid distraction.” As a result he finds his accuracy increases, while the flexibility of the software allows him to pause and read-back and so make even better use of the MT1.
The software also allows parents to send emails to their children’s iPod, mobile phone etc, where the emails can be listened to – which can be useful for reasons of child security and communication with home.
The developers of MT1 welcome educational applications for children and students. “Wherever the written word is used, MT1 can make learning more enjoyable, productive and flexible,” says MagneticTime's Marketing Executive, Laura Bourke. “Between them, software and electronics are removing traditional boundaries and changing attitudes, and ‘text-to-speech’ is at the forefront of change.”
Research shows that interaction improves learning, and where children and students are involved in new technology, learning speeds up even more. MT1 offers both interaction and new technology – and improved focus, as shown by Dr Sullivan - making it a valuable new tool in education.”
There are three versions of MT1 to choose from - MT-iPod™, MT-Phone™ and MT-Portable™. Each comes with a desktop player that allows emails and Word documents to be played on a PC or laptop.
The number one thing that parents and their children spend money on - not counting books and traditional school supplies - is electronics. Back-to-school sales are "driven by computer-related products," says Shane McAllister, MagneticTime’s Business Development Manager.
MT1 retails for £22.99 including VAT and is available at Amazon.com, MagneticTime.com, Tucows.com and CNet’s Download.com.
